I've noticed on a couple of occasions recently after passing a banshee on the trail some strange exhaust smell. Not your typical 2 stroke exhaust smell. I can't describe it but I'm assuming its some type of racing fuel or 2 stroke oil? I just added 110 octane racing fuel to my ride but it doesn't smell like the bikes I'm refering to. Someone I rode with even mentioned an addative for the sake of just having your bike's exhaust smell different. Is this so?

It's the type of oil they're using.
Any 2 stroke oil with Bean Oil in it, has that distinctive smell.
For example Klotz has bean oil in it. That's the type of oil I use, and my exhaust that sort of sweet smell to it.

I'm not sure if this was what you were smelling, but there is a company (I think IPONE?) that makes a strawberry scented 2-stroke synthetic pre-mix oil.

I hear my brother and husband (MC riders, both 2-strokes) talk about different scents that some are adding, but I don't know the details. Supposed to have something to do with making the fumes from 2-stroke engines (which will probably be totally outlawed someday ) be more environmentally pleasing.........

WhatEVER......

Could you be smelling Castor 2-Stroke oil, as that has a very noticable aroma to it?

What you were smelling is the aroma of 2 stroke. There are some oils that smell diffrently but what ever the oil they all smell awsome. Just another upside to 2 stroke.

Castor was mentioned, but is there a smell difference in race fuels? I swear TRICK smells different than VP. Someone once said that TRICK has toluene in it or something. The other thing that you could be smelling is nitromethane and alky...but it makes your eyes hurt more than smell.

you can buy an additive to add to your fuel which can give it several divverent smells like strawberry as mentioned above to vanilla.
