What happens when you do..

1 Any time you replace the rings you need to at least hone the cylinder.
2 Just being able to feel compression coming out of the exhaust pipe or out of the sparkplug hole doesn't mean it has enough compression for the motor to run.

Yes you should Always check your ring gaps!!!
It's very simple to do, You put the ring in the cylinder & use the piston to make sure it's square & then you measure the gap with a feeler gauge, The specs will be in your service manual or in the instructions that came with the rings.
If the gap is too tight it'll cause the rings to gall quickly & they're toast. You can open the gap by Carefully filing the ends with a points file.
If the gap is too wide you'll lose compression, it's usually a sign that you need to bore your cylinder to the next size.
You need to know how much compression you have. I think on a Blaster you should have around 140 lbs.
You're gonna have to take it apart & replace what you messed up & do it over right.

As for the chip it probly just blew out the exhaust when it happened. The engine most likely got hot and caused the piston to get stress fractures and chip, Im just throwing rocks at it. But I would definitly bore it before assembly.

Look for scratches in the cylinder & on the piston. Look for damage to the rings too.

When you get it apart take the cylinder, piston, rings, piston rod bearing & head to a machine shop & have it checked.
They can tell you if it needs to be bored & how much so you can order the correct parts.
