2002 Warrior problems
#1
I recently bought a 2002 Warrior from the original owner. It was running great with no problems until a few days ago, when it started to cough and sputter at ¼ throttle. It starts fine, but as soon as I reach about ¼ throttle it begins to sputter and runs rough and continues getting worse as more throttle is applied. I disconnected the carburetor and remove all jets and cleaned it out very thoroughly I reconnected the carburetor and still had the same problem. I cleaned the carburetor again and still have the same problem. I am thinking now it may be a weak spark. The spark plug was tan in color and is now black. If I disconnect the spark plug and touch the block, I can see a spark, but it appears weak. Anyone else every have this problem? I think I can eliminate the carburetor because I cleaned it very well, but I am not sure. Any help is appreciated.

Its the parking break rev limiter, either wire it together so it cant move back and engage or block the sucker off and remove the wiring. They are evil, mines done it and i worked on it for a week before I found it in a review of the warrior under possible problems.
If you dont believe me push forward the part that engages the parking brake and watch her rev freely

Jackal Warrior,
Dude I am so happy right now I could kiss you !! I spent 2 freaking days checking the carb and ignition. I was just about to go out and buy a new coil. You were RIGHT !!! That is the damist thing !! The thing was, I recently adjusted the parking brake and never thought that could be it. Thank you !!! I was going to have to cancel my weekly Suday ride, now I am off and running. Thanks again.

It gets every warrior owner at one time or another, just make sure you tell the next guy whats going on , its so common you see it in this forum atleast once a week.

The funny thing is I even went to a Yamaha dealer and spoke to a mechanic there and he never metioned the parking brake, just the that the coil seemed bad. What a dope ! I am buying a Clymers manual for the warrior and avoiding the headache for the next problem that comes up.

Man my 02 Warrior just starting doing that today. I knew that many have this problem so I wasn't worried but now I need to look into getting a parking brake lockout or have the wiring changed to eliminate that setup all together.

buy yourself the gyt-r (YZ400) clutch perch and replace the stock with it. you'll have to get rid of the E-brake for good though. just remove the cable and mount a block-off plate on the brake. you'll need to follow the two wire harnesses to their connections underneath your headlights. unplug the box like connector...fill it with dy-electric grease and tape it up. unplug the other harness and take the two remaining fittings and plug them into each other. be sure to also fill them with Dy-grease.
The YZ400 has the quick adjust perch...so it's worth the upgrade. because it's Yamaha it looks stock.
note: should you decide to keep the stockset-up. beware...one good roll-over or even if your handle bars catch a tree...those harness are going to break where they meet the perch and now your stranded. it's called preventive maintinance...you've been warned.
