Okay okay, I have to agree with 14 on this one. Dale got the sport where it is today. Petty started and Dale got huge merchandise. So that means ALOT of fans. I know when I drive around I see tons of #3 stickers not #43.
Now on the **** thing with tony. How about Ward Burton saying his car was **** live on tele. in the middle of the race. So Tony is not the only hot head. You would be pissed to if your "crew" got your jetting wrong on your raptor before a-sand drag race.

I do believe Dale Sr. was the first drive to trademark his name. That has to say something about how popular he is. I didn't get to see a race in person before he died but my dad went to a couple and said that he usually had 4-6 souvenir trailers and most people had 1 maybe 2 trailers at the track. He was just very marketable and very well known. You either hated him or you loved him really not much in between.

I thought that the crew gave Tony what he asked for in happy hour. LOL
Buddy baker was the first Nascar driver to offically hit 200 mph, some had done it before but he was the first offically to do it. (in a dodge)
don't get me wrong the old days were great what you saw of it. It was real racing, sometimes nascar today is like glamour racing. Still a great way to spend a week end.

Dale was not my favorite driver but he made racing interesting.
Moose- It is a good thing a lot of women do not read this board. A few might kick your butt over the Dale bashing. When i went to Daytona for the July race last year, the women were crying by the 1000's in turn 4. (mine included) The good side of this is all i have to say is "Honey you want to fly out to... and watch a nascar race??? She has never turned that question down yet. When we were in Atlanta they were doing some nascar triva and most were sucking bad. The question was How many driver can you name in 30 seconds 5 people named less than 15 and my wife rattled off 24. LOL
