Welcome Raptorflash!
I was glad to find this site too.
Please use the 'search' feature. This topic has been covered many times.
In short: I beleive some '01s are immune, dont use reverse if your infected, and consult a 01 raptor owner before riding.
I also believe this problem can be fixed.

I don't know much about this issue, but I'll at least get the ball rolling.
The "alleged" tranny problem should just be on the '01's. There were also reported "Carbs Falling off" problems too .
I'm not sure what the exact problem was, but I think it was gear related....however whatever it was is a potentially dangerous and costly problem.
I have been on these forums for a while, and I read a lot about the problems reported regarding this, but I can't give a percentage. It seemed that there were talks of this only being on the early production 2001 models, and the later ones seemed better, but I can't confirm.
It appears that the '02's and '03's are better.
Sorry I can't tell ya more...I'm sure a lot of other people on here will jump in to fill ya in.
Welcome to the forums.
