Default Worth it to replace rear shock? 2003 Raptor

I put on new a-arms and new front shocks, made a big difference. I heard the rear shock is an ok one, will I really notice a big difference if I change the rear?

2 things you could do is :

one is take the stock rear shock and have someone who do the shocks work, have them do the revalve and put a good aftermarket spring like Eibach. The price might from from 300 to 450.

The other choice is buy aftermarket shock like, Work Performance,Custom Axis, Olhin,Elka Depending how much money you want to spend....

What A-arm and shock do you have?

I bought the ALBA ProComp Suspension Kit but upgraded to the tripple rate shocks w/res. I also got the Axcaliber Axle.

What I was wondering was for those who have changed the rear out is if they noticed a big difference or not.

yea you would notice the difference if you went after market shock or revalve the shock as I mention it.

On mine I got Lobo kit on the front and Custom Axis shocks front and rear....

It make a world of different.

I had my swing arm extended by 3" and installed the ELKA SSD rear shock. The overall improvemnt is very noticable. I think most of the improvement came from the swing arm extension. To be honest, I'm wondering if I really feel $700 worth of improvement in the rear shock performance. I would have probably been just as happy by properly adjusting the stock shock !? I'm still sorta tweaking the adjustments on the new shock and learning a lot so the final set-up is not done yet. Dont get me wrong - the ELKA shock performs much better but if the stock shock isnt broke or old it may not be that worthwile.

Just my initial gut feel.....

I would have mine reworked with the ssd just to lower it a bit.

"SSD" is Elkas zero pre-load set-up. It stands for ?S? Sag Device (I cant remember).

The Quad Shop can apparently upgrade the stock Rap shock to Elka guts and add the SSD functionality.

Here's my honest opinion...no you don't need it. the Raptor rear shock is a good shock. Now your gonna run into alot of people who will tell you that they replaced theirs and it changed their life...im telling you i replaced mine with an Elka...and it did not.Is it better? yup. Did i notice a big Diffrence? no. in fact the only place i noticed the diffrnce was on the track when i'm riding all out and the rear end was taking a slamming through the roughest stuff. Other than that i was perfectly happy with the stocker and probably did'nt need to blow the cash on that item at that particular time.

The fronts are a diffrent story...aftermarket shocks up front are very noticable in performance.

If you have cash to burn? go ahead. But i'm sur you could find other area's of interest to invest that cash in on your Raptor.

Good Luck

I agree with 660RNH...I still run the rear stocker and it handles great on the MX track. Doesn't bottom out on jumps and has good rebound on landings. IMO, change it if you have the money or like to brag about how much you spent, but its works fine for me. ( I have the same Alba set-up that you have) your gonna dig it!!!
