Good luck with the chevy. They make great trucks, and they are the best brand out there if your looking for a gas truck, but if your going diesel then get a cummins. Dad used to have a 93 chevy 350 V8 with a 5 speed and it ran pretty good except it was way to high geared for pulling.

That's the whole thing there, transmissions make a huge difference. The automatic is basically a hydraulic pump driven by the motor and doesnt have any direct mechanical linkage like the manual. The manual transmission will always put more power to the ground. Ford's new auto transmission for the 6.0 does however feel pretty impressive. Unfortunately these solutions to the Ranger not having enough power are getting more expensive each reply I'd just buy the old rig with a big honkin V8 to tow the trailer and keep the Ranger as the daily driver.
That is incorrect. the auto tranny DOES have direct mechanical linkage.... Once the auto tranny hits stall speed the trans goes into full lock-up. Once in lock-up the clutches (one or more for each gear) feather the power between shifts.

Anyway... my suggestion would be to start looking on TRUCK TRADER ONLINE.com for a 3/4 ton truck.

I did, and I found a 94 gmc 2500 4wd with 27,000 miles (already did a title search and it checks out) for $5000 and no payments....live debt free!
Good luck

Glad to see you jumped ship and give me a jingle and we'll go riding some time. Watch out on the tranny in that truck if it's the 700 R4 they get smoked quite regularly. The Blazer has that problem now. By the way could you ask guy's at the Deere Dealership if Bode Automatic Tranmission of Osage does any good at rebuilding trannies.

Now that I have it, I want it to sound good. My Ranger had cat-back dauls with no mufflers and I thought it sounded kinda loud/stupid, most of that was due to the fact that it was a V-6 engine.

Thinking about a Flowmaster cat-back system? I hear they have quality stuff.
