HI, Mywifes quad ????
thanks for the help, will try to find a coil and use it as a substitute.....
just to explain, here in France parts cost an arm and a leg......I did try to locate a service kit in the UK, that where I'm from but the importer has quit with Linhai...too many warranty claims......
so bought a new spark plug, an air filter and a carb diaphragm from here...that little lot came to
188 euros which I believe is around the same in US Dollars......
should have got a Honda.....
will let you know how I get on.....
thanks again..... Clogs

Default Problem solved - changed the spark plug

Hi folks

Thanks for the help.

I tried sourcing a replacement coil on the internet (here is south west france), but proved almost impossible - unless I buy in china or second hand on ebay.

Eventually went to a bike shop in Pau to buy an "equivalent bike coil". They advised me that a replacement coil wasn't the problem, as coils' work or don't work - full stop. Not sure they are correct as I have experienced erratic coils in my morris minor. As I am not in a hurry I thought that I would start with replacing the spark plug (4 euros). Problem solved.

Here's the history of my problem:
1. Quad when cold starts and runs for 30 minutes and then stops and won't restart for 3 to 4 hours.
2. Checked for spark - when engine cold - ok but slightly eractic
3. Checked for spark - when engine hot - no spark but 12v measured at the coil indicating no smart switch stopping the engine from starting.

Thanks to all your comments
