New carb means nothing. Filter either seeins that the dirt usually comes in the vent.

Dirt through the air filter can get into the carb throttle body and bad on the engine, just keep it clean and oiled. Also the crappy ethanol gas we get now days just leaves a powder type residue or sticky varnish in the carb bowl over time by attracting moisture and stops up jets, needle and seats. Keep a good fuel stabilizer in the fuel such as Marine Stabil,Startron, etc and on a battery tender to help a battery last longer. Crank it up at least once a month in winter if not in regular use to keep the stabilizer circulating through the carb and you wont have any fuel related problems come spring.
