Napster, my son is 12 and has a 150cc Yamato. It's a good atv for a beginner rider. The 2004 Yamatos seem to need some modifications (bumper, brakes, etc.). My son's friend has a 150cc Red Cat. His parents paid the same amount for his atv as my son's atv. In my opinion, the Red Cat handles the trails a lot better than the Yamato and the Red Cat has reverse....a must if you're trail riding. I believe the 2005 Yamatos are now equipped with reverse though. The Yamato was faster than the Red Cat when they raced them side by side. It all depends on what you want out of a four wheeler. Hope that helps.

Napster, I think that the Yamoto 150 is a good quad for the money. The down side to the yamotos are the suspension, at least in 04. The new ones "look" a little better, but who knows. It is a good running quad for sure, just needs a little wrenching. i am suprised to hear that the yamoto is faster than the Red cat. The yamoto is not real fast but its suspension is at its limits at the speedit goes. around 32-35 mph.

KingDave, my boyfriend cut my son's bottom lip off his bumper last night and will sand down the edges. He said surprisingly it looks great. I haven't checked it out yet but as soon as I do, I'll let you know.

Which motor mount are you yamoto owners having trouble with? The one on the top in the rear or the one on the bottom on the right side. I just looked at the wifes yamoto and couldnt find any cracks. Does the tab break in half or does it tear off of the frame? Thanks, MWQ

I suggested cutting off the bottom of my wifes bumper and from the look she gave me, I changed my mind. I used to hate the look of that bumper until I widened the front end.

Quick question....is there anyway to put reverse on the 2004 Yamato without costing an arm and a leg?

It is the mount on the bottom right. It leaves a large hole in the frame.

Glad to hear somebody cut that lip off. I am going to do mine this weekend.

From what i have seen in the picture of the new yamoto it appears that the reverse is in the rear end of the quad. Mounted to the swing arm. Not sure if I am right though. If I am, it could possibly be done, but most likely not be easy or cheap.

Thanks perdition and kingdave, I will be keeping a eye on it. Do you guys jump your quads? Was there a lot of vibration? Were the bolts loose?
