Default 02 Xtreme low compression after rebuild

Posting this for a new member.

I have a 02 xtreme just like the 04 that I saw pictured in one of your posts. My son was out riding in a lot of mud and water and it just died. I contacted an xtreme dealer in CT and they told me I needed a new top end kit so Installed that. New piston and rings. Compression before the install was at 90 and is still at 90 with the new kit. It has plenty of spark but will not start. If you spray starting fluid in the carb it will sputter but that is all. The carb was completely cleaned by a local dealer. Any thoughts?

I'd check the rings and make sure they don't have the gaps placed in the wrong spot.

Not uncommon for one that old to need the top end redone, but you should be up near 120 on the new rebuild.

The rings are seated right, they would not have gone in the cylinder any other way. ( meaning the gaps are at the spot where the pins are at on the piston. I was also told to squirt some oil in the plug hole to build up compression and that didn't work either.

Valve lash, ????????? did you check that.

Most common to have the exhaust get tight and loose compression, even with oil it will not bring the compression up.

Default 2002 xtreme 90

Here is the link for parts. It really depends on what type of parts you need on if you need to order from here or not. The 2 stroke xtreme I believe up to about 2006 came off the same production line as the polaris scrambler in Tiawon. If you need brakes or something like that I would check with your polaris dealer. They probably will not admit to it, but Xtreme, Skyhawk, DRR and many others are a polaris clone. If you have any questions just call Jerry from the link below and he can help you out. Or just email me at my email address and I can help you out anyway I can.

These particular little 50 and 90 engines are in almost all the major brand models and no name models! Don't know who or how many Taiwan /Chinese companies make these motors. Aeon,Eaton,Kasea,Polaris, and on down the line they're mostly the same with the exception of some different electrical components, wiring connections and some exhaust differences. I don't know if you call any of em a clone of something else? I've even seen the same little motors in Chinese atvs sold on the side of the roads down here on flat bed trailers in Texas with just Chinese writing on them,no English at all! OPT
