2003-2004 Baja WD250-Q Gearbox Solution
#1
I have seen many forum posts about people who cannot find the gearbox for their Baja wd250, QJ Commando 250, Dragon 250, ATV250 with no solution to the problem other then throw it away. After many many months attempting to locate the parts I finally came upon a solution described below.
Please everyone BEWARE of PARTSYAHOO partsyahoo.com They are crooks who do not have the parts for this ATV. Please check reviews, they get 1 star and once you give your money to them you'll never get it back or get any parts from them.
Here's a complete writeup on how to completely replace the defective gearbox in this series of ATV
This is my ATV...

What happens is the gearbox has no bearing on the forward gear shaft so when you drive it too long or if it gets too hot the case cracks rendering the ATV useless. They completely redesigned the gearbox and used it in a newer style ATV called the KEEWAY Dragon 250. This article explains how to convert the old style box to the new style with bearings on ALL SHAFTS.
The new style box is larger to allow extra space for the bearings. This means the shafts are further apart which means you have to replace the whole case, 5 cogs, shift fork and add a couple bearings.
It took me forever to find a dealer willing to get me my parts. This is because Keeway does not sell ATV's in the USA anymore and they will not sell to anyone without a valid Keeway VIN number, most other dealers are the same way. This is bizarre because Keeway is the same company as QianJiang who manufacture the ATV, baja just rebadged it. I emailed and called almost all the Keeway Dealers in the USA, only found one decent person with a decent price the dealer is Bob Hill of Hill Motorbikes Home I believe I paid $200 for the whole kit, it could be cheaper if you specifically ask for the upgrade kit.
Here's the list of parts....
1xGearbox Case 215200.809000
1xGearbox Cover 215201.809000
Quantity/Diagram Number/Part Number/Part Description
1x/2/210302.809000/Fork(shift fork)
1x/7/215301.809000/Drive Gear
1x/8/215304.809000/Drive Gear . Reverse
1x/4/215305.810000/Driven Gear, Gear Shift
1x/21/215305.810000/Driven Gear, Reverse
1x/12/215307.809000/Idle Gear
1x/13-14/312600040000/Bearing 6004 (idle gear bearing)
Keeway Parts Diagram http://www.suzumamoto.com/descargas/...n_250_2007.pdf
Baja Parts Diagram http://www.fastrixx.com/baja/1.%20Pr...%20LAWA%29.pdf
The Baja Diagram specifically mentions all the parts needed to convert to the new style gearbox which is what I used to find what parts I needed.
It's quite simple to install, the only issue I had was getting the shift fork sensor out. you have to pull out the black sensor to get at a pin then you can remove the shifter.
New Gearbox...

Installation is quite simple if you study the diagrams. It only fits together one way, you'll need a clip pliers to install the clips. just remember always put the washer between the clip and the gear so it's [clip][washer][gear][washer][clip].
Due to the gearbox size and shape, the right foot pedal will be able to connect to the brake line without modification. You will also need to get a chain breaker and add a few links to the existing chain.
This isnt exactly plug and play but remember its a $2000 ATV best not waste it.

Thanks for taking the time to share that
.
I have a 150cc GY6 quad. Just about the only thing I've never been able to find for the quad is a replacement FNR gear box. I haven't had any trouble with mine even after a couple thousand miles, it's just something I've never seen available anywhere. I have seen other 150cc gear boxes that are not compatible with mine. Apparently those gear boxes fail a lot so there is a market for replacements for those units.
