2003 SunL 110cc Just stopped running
#1
my niece's 110cc sunl quit running while she was riding it. The battery was fully charged when we took her out, she was riding for approx. a half hour and as she was riding it just died. We tested the battery with a screw driver touching each terminal and there was a great spark, yet there's no spark coming from the starter solenoid? The start button hasn't worked in a few weeks, she has ridden it about 5 times without the starter button, we were touching the wire connectors to the starter solenoid to get it to crank, now there's nothing, not a spark, or a crank or anything just nothing. can someone tell me what to check before I trash it ?? I have an extra 110cc sunl parts quad with new parts such as cdi box, starter, solenoid, magneto, regulator, coil to spark plug. any help would be greatly appreciated by my little 8 y.o. niece. Thank You !!!!

Take a meter and measure the DC voltage right on the battery terminals while simultaneously jumping across the starter solenoid. What voltage do you measure on the battery while it's under the load from the starter motor?
It should be above 11.5 volts.
I'm wondering if your battery is discharged (your shorting the battery with a screwdriver is not a very definitive test).
You could also jump the quad battery to your car battery with jumper cables. If your quad battery isn't up to the task then jumping it to your car should prove that if the starter spins normally.
It should be above 11.5 volts.

Well thanks for the response and advice but I figured out the problem. While she was riding she somehow lost the ground wire.
