stripped crankshaft splines for variator. HELP pls
so i noticed my variator fan (the front disk) was wobblying all over the crankshaft. I dont have a impact gun yet so i cant remove the nut to take the variator off but i noticed the splines the variator slides on to are all stripped off. in order for me to fix the crankshaft am i going to have to take the engine apart and put in a new crankshaft. if i have to do this am a better off buying a new engine.

If there is anything left at all(splines).. Im really struggling with a aluminum part being able to strip the steel part, but it is from China.. Any way if there is any splines left.. you could use green loctite to fill in the gaps with a new variator.. its going to be hard to remove the next time, but maybe you will have sold it by then..

ill use green loctite. i just had an idea, buy a used motor or new if i find one cheap enough, and get the bore kit to s 180cc and install more upgrades, rollers, and rejet carb, and mayor have a faster atv. just an idea i dont know if it would be worth it. id love to fix quad to perfect condition and make 700 for it then put that towards a used raptor or 400ex

I think you need a bore and stroke kit to get to 180cc's.. I had a bunch of "kits" that I checked out for Jetmoto.. and had some extra parts..I have a 150 engine I modded to hold a 3mm stroker crank and a 6mm oversize cylinder and piston.. these were not parts meant to be used together and I had to machine the cases and cylinder so the crank would rotate.. What I didnt have was a larger head to make up for the high compression piston.. I must have modded the head and piston a 1/2 dozen times and never could get the compression low enough for the e-start to turn it over.. knowing how weak the kick starters are I didnt bother.. That engine is sitting on a shelf until I get the urge to grind away more of the head..

i bought a compressor and air tool kit today and it took the variator nut off first try ... yay me lol but i noticed the new variator isnt as loose as i thought it would be. the splines are grinded on the crankshaft but ill have to use a rubber mallet to knock the new variator on. does anyone know what would of caused the old variator to get loose enough to rattle and rip the splines off the crank?
