Kid wants dad to fix quad!
Bush Hog vs Bush Hog 2007 vs 2007 ATV 50 vs ATV 50
Hello all,
My little boy wants me "Dad" to fix his quad!
Please See Link
I have a 2004-2007 Bush Hog or maybe aeon Cobra 50cc quad.
My friend sold it to me for a 100.00 bucks "No Spark"
The problem is that it starts and runs great, but if it gets shut off it
will not start back up unless it sits all night.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will do my best to follow any
instructions you can give.

When it is warmed up and wont start, do you have spark? Pull out the spark plug, wire it back up, and hold the plug threads against the engine block while attempting to start. Do you see a steady spark across the plug gap at about ten times per second while cranking?
What this test is trying to determine is whether the problem lies with the ignition system or something else.

1) Is you quad a four stroke?
2) Does you CDI look like any of these:
I'm reading that is was running flawlessy up to the point that you shut it off, and then it wouldn't start. Did this happen more than once? If so how many times? (These are really important questions.)
Assuming the previous question is true, (and if it isn't we need to abandon this and change course), then the major difference between a running/idling quad ignition system and a cranking quad ignition system is engine speed. An idling quad is rotating about 1800 RPM (30 revolutions per second). A quad engine being cranked by starter motor is 3 times slower at about 600 RPM (10 times per second). The unloaded output voltage from the stator on any winding is proportional to engine speed (the law of Faraday Induction), so is conceivable that a partial failure in the stator could cause a situation where it would idle fine, yet not have enough 'oomph' to start up a quad at the much lower cranking speeds. It's a stretch, but lately we only seem to be getting weird off the wall problems that don't fit in the common problem genre.
The stator heats up over several minutes, and cools very slowly. On the other hand the CDI heats quickly and cools quickly. Your symptoms still points to the stator, but please do due dilligence and find which CDI you have, and answer the other questions too as best you can.

I'm really behind in my posts. My private posts are even more behind (they get lesser priority than public posts because public posts do the greater good at large).
Your cannot upload pic's until you get to a certain number of posts. I don't know what that value is, but it is probably around 20 posts. It is a barrier against spam attacks.
I put most of my pictures on www.photobucket.com (a free web picture hosting site). There are many others as well. I upload pic's there, then paste in a link in my post to photobucket. They make it easy to grab the link to your pic's and paste it into your post.
