Default Runs but won't idle without moving forward (HH Twister 150 Buggy)

Just got a 2006 Hammerhead Twister 150 and replaced the carb, fuel filter, petcock, intake manifold, spark plug, drive belt and coil.

It fires right up and runs fine at low to mid throttle. If you punch it it'll cut out. If you slowly ramp up the speed it'll hum along about 32 mph, but once you hit the last 1/4" of throttle it sputters. So that's a secondary problem, because otherwise it runs fine and will run for as long as you want to ride it.

The main issue I have is that when you turn it over, the cart wants to lunge forward as if it's engaged. If you put the brake on and give it slight throttle it'll start and stay running. The minute you let off the brake off you go. Seems to run fine until you want to stop. Then it dies unless you keep your foot on the throttle and gently push brakes to stop.

When I had it apart, I spun the clutch housing and it seemed to spin freely and the clutch arms didn't seem broken or anything. I did not take the housing off as I know I don't have the big socket for that huge nut. Was thinking about replacing the main spring with a 1500 rpm. But seems as if the thing should idle without moving. I do not have a FNR drivetrain, just FR. Because of this, you can't start the thing uphill, it has to be pointed in a direction it can move freely or you won't get it started.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the idle is set to high. If they are set to high it will engage and go. My quads when warmed up idle around the 900rpm mark those are efi, on my carbed i had it closer to 1000rpm. Get it started and pull the idle back until it stops trying to go on you

I can't find an idle that will keep it running. The kart actually lurched forward from the starter. I have to have my foot on brake and tap the gas to keep it running.

I think there is a clutch problem that needs investigating.

When I had the cover off I was able to spin the clutch bell freely and didn't notice an arm dragging or anything. What problem could it be?

I'm thinking a roller may have flipped in the front clutch when you did the belt change.
