I fitted a new wiring harness as original had lots of home made joints. I have a 5 connector socket coming from the gear selector switch with nowhere to plug it in.
is this required as I don’t have a spark.

any help appreciated.

 

You shouldn't need the gear selector working for a spark, though some gear indicator switches send a signal so the starter will only work in neutral. Do the "help diagnose stator" tests in the sticky at the top of this section of the forum. This should narrow down what is wrong with the ignition.
