Default Another identification question

Hi

New to this forum because I have just purchased a "farm buggy" and need to identify what it is for parts etc. There are NO identification marks anywhere I can see (other than the seat) Please see pictures

The only problem Ican detect is that the machine will not stay in reverse gear. I have looked at articles on the internet that will help sort this out but it would be best if I know what brand this is and can get a user manuel.

I have 100+ acres in the Australian NSW highlands and figure this beast might get into places where my NJ Pajero and the Ford 6000 tractor struggle.

Any help appreciated

Alan

I think you have to have posted on here a few times before you can put up pictures. Can't help much without them and if it is Chinese, I probably can't help anyway as we seem to be avoiding them in the UK, sticking to John Deere and Kawasaki, plus the odd Kubota and JCB though these seem to have gone out of favor lately.

Not being able to post pictures would be very stupid. - they explain a situation better than most words.

In this case, The machine is probably not a "proper" ATV but a race cart. Regardless, I want to fix the lack of reverse gear. Some kind of manual would be helpful though there are plenty of U tube videos that should help. Finding the right parts will be the challenge. Fortunately, the final drive and clutch are fairly easy to access

I have very limited experience of them, in fact I have only done a couple and that doesn't look like either. However, looks like a scooter or motorcycle engine drives a chain to a gearbox above the rear axle, then down via another chain to the axle? So the reverse will be in that gearbox? If so, it is going to be very hard to get gearbox parts as that is a non standard set up. Check the linkage as it is going to be very long from the gear lever to the box, and cables tend to stretch. The buggy looks in good order, so should still have the VIN plate on it somewhere.

Investigation process underway

The linkage is actually rods, not cables and the connections are pretty sloppy so I'll disconnect them from the gearbox, remove the top of the box and see if the gears will mesh. If they do, then it will be the linkage that needs repair or replacement. This will also identify any broken or worn components inside the box

I'm not even sure I'm on the right forum with these questions. If anyone knows better - please provide a redirection.

Today, I took the top off the gearbox> There does not seem to be any damage. Jacked up the drive wheels and managed to engage forward gear without much difficulty but no way will it go into reverse.

Next, I'll disconnect the rod linkages to see if the gears can be engaged and if so, the problem should be play in the linkages.

I have been all over the Internet trying to identify the gearbox, without success - I can't seem to upload a picture. Is this me or a design problem with the forum software?

Disconnect the forward reverse lever on the box, from the linkage. Then see if you can get reverse by moving just that lever. Sometimes they are spring loaded and need the linkage, to stay in gear, but you should be able to find out if it does go in, if you move the lever on the box far enough. If you can, it looks like you need to take the slop out of the linkage and adjust it so that it does move that lever on the gearbox, far enough.

Yes thanks - pretty well what I intend. Currently suffering from a bad back and a hernia - both making life difficult but I'll get to it eventually

If the adminsitrator is reading this - why the hell is there no simple way to add a picture to a post? I subscrive to several forums and this is the only one that gives trouble
