Default LT 80 Wont stay running

My son has nand LT 80 that I been working on the problem is it wont stay running been trying to adjust the carb but no luck. It will stay running if I hold the chock on, also even when its been running for a while I stll have to use the Choke to start it after it dies. Almost sound like its sucking air from somewhere and holding the choke on compensates. What's the deal?

Thanks

Hi

I have a similar problem and have been told that it is probably the crank seals, have you fixed yours yet?, if so how

Thanks

Hi I think you might need to clean out the carb.

I agree w/uptmor. Clean the carb and report back please. It's a blocked main jet.
Crank seals will make it run lean, but I've never seen them leak bad enough to stall the motor.

The person who made the suggestion of the crank seals did so partially because i had taken the barrel and piston to him for a rebore due to scratches at the front and back, the engine has a load rattle but he considered the damage he could see was not significant enough to cause such a noise, when i told him about the engine being run for some considerable time without oil in the petrol and also the starting and tickover problem he considered the noise was likely to be the bottom end or crank bearings and the running problem due to the seals.

Does anyone have any views on this as i am being told the engine needs a complete rebuild, any experiance out there on usual problems after running without oil ?

Many thanks

serafin: I would think that you indeed need a re-build. Running w/o oil puts a hurt on things.
