Getting my son a 250ex this weekend he is 13 and has riden all his life. I can't put him on a 90 or something small because he is my size all ready and his feet would hang over the fenders on a 90. He is a very good rider and wants something that he can keep up with us at wayne national forest when we trail ride. Has anyone had any problems or is it as bullet proof as our old 300 honda 4x4? Please help and thanks in advance.

It's the perfect quad for him and will definetly keep up with you. Trail riding is what it was designed for and probably will get through the mud better than you. I never understood why they use those heavy 4x4's for mudding, to sink faster or what? I'll take a light sport quad for mudding over a 4x4 any day. Anyways, good choise!

The Recon I owned was indestructible so I have to think the 250ex would be also. I think it sounds like a great choice.

I know what you mean, my daughter is 10 yrs. old, and is already 5'4". We took her 250EX on a 45 mile (its first big outing) desert XC ride the other day, and she loved it. I think the 250 is the best trail bike in its size class. It's a little tippy and it understeers a bit, but these are not a big deal. She had no trouble keeping up with all the other kids on their Blasters. Sure, the Blaster is more exciting but there is always the problem of keeping it in powerband while trailriding. And, our Blaster hasn't turned out to be all that durable.

I just put a Mega Max II pipe on a Recon, and it really made a big difference. I'm thinking this pipe would turn the little 250 into a real ripper!!

There is a good shootout against the Lakota Sport in the April issue of 4-wheel atv action. It sounds like a great machine!

I would recommend that you spend the money and get him a 300EX. He will out grow that 250EX in no time flat and if your son is a good rider, he will soon be wanting to fly that new toy. I love my little 330EX and if it ever came down to selling either of my quads, I would get rid of the DS650 before my little 330EX. I have never had any problems with my 300EX, infact I was trying to talk my wife into the stroker kit and she finally said yes when the 300EX dies. Well to make a long story short the darn thing wouldn't die so I made up a story to my wife so I could go buy the stroker kit and get some raw power out of it. Now that little baby flies. Now my wife is getting ready to start racing the 330EX. Hope this helps you out.

Do you also think a light 2wd sports car will out mud a 4x4 truck because the truck is heavier?
