Hello all, safe to say I’m probably the least in the know here as to where to start because the machine resides at my ex wives house. That said, it’s accessible anytime I’m just tossing out the problem I came across today.
So, the kart was sent out for a tune up/carb replacement late last year. I’m not sure if it ran right since the tune up or if this is a new issue but, I was told the kart would die under throttle. So I started at the upper gas line, filter lower line, “new replacement carb….I decided to take this off break it down and inspect the pilot/main screws basically all of it. They were completely blocked, I ended up soaking the carb and components and putting them back together and she fired right off. Here’s my dilemma, both my son and ex’s bf claim since they had some wire break they have to shut the kart off by opening the choke. (What most consider normal riding position). The choke has zero to do with anything electric (electric start). I wasn’t able to fully adjust or tune the carb because my son took it for a rip and shut it off after. The battery was dead as well so I had given up at that point for the day. How do I set this up now to run when I open the choke up after initial startup? And is it possible that they broke a wire that would shut the vehicle off? Thanks all first day a member, first question, first carburetor I’ve ever turned a wrench on.
First check that it is always on choke when running, it would be more likely that they choke it to stop it. If it does need choke to run, the carb is set way too weak.
There is a kill wire on most Quads/karts etc. This usually earths a wire from the CDI and kills the spark. Most have this wire going to the ignition switch, which actually has two switches inside it, one switching on live from battery, to power things on the machine like lights, horn etc. The other part of the switch earths the "kill wire" when you switch ignition off. Kill wires are usually black with white stripe. This kill wire also goes to a separate kill switch that also earths it, for use in an emergency.
I figured out the choke issue on the kart. I couldn’t refine the tuning properly and although I’m not a seasoned mechanic I do know how to read and follow directions yet still it wouldn’t go. So I went to pull the plug, once I dislodged the wire from the plug I noticed the plug rattling. It was only about 1/8 of a turn into the threads.
now I have the shutoff issue. What is this? Is this the CDI? 4 pin connector. The opposite side of the connector has only 1 wire running to it. Three others severed. It appears as two of the three are tethered together. Lights inop, and key system doesn’t shut off kart. But does start it
