The difference is in how this is acheived. You either fool your stock CDI (HL, VD and DG) or you remap the CDI (Dynatek).

Spark advanced is plug ignites farther from TDC, sooner in the cycle, retarting time is closer to TDC.

Both, the modules and the Dynatek CDI, do the same thing - electronic spark control or timing, however you want to describe it.
As far as engine premature wear caused by one earlier than the other, not sure how you would come to this conclusion.
My concerns with the modules are reliability, functionality and installation. The modules are wired in and they trick the stock CDI and not plug and play like the Dynatek. One of the guys I ride with has gone threw a few modules on his 04. For some reason, they overheat and stop working. Has now gone to the Dynatek CDI with no problems to date.
I guess only time will tell on the Dynatek!

Here's a question. I hear that a lot of guys are modifying the air snorkel on the '04 650's. I hear that this works quite well... Here is my question. The '05 cat's have a sort of ram air intake system, and i am wondering if this snorkel trick will work on the '05's and if so what i should rejet my wheeler for after modifying.

Thats a good question, I was woundering the same thing. I was planning on doing some testing to see how the bike would run with and without the air ram system. Dealer tells me the bike runs really good in deep water, even submerged for periods of up to 15 seconds due to this air intake system design. Seems to me that it would cause air restriction specially if the front grill gets clogged.
Unfortunalty, I will not be doing any testing anytime soon due to the snow and cold weather up here.
