I have had my son's 300ex for sale in the forum want ads for a while, and yesterday got an email from a guy in Quebec (according to his letter) that wants to buy the quad sight unseen, full asking price. With all the problems on eBay with scams, does this sound too good to be true? his English was a little off, but he could be French, I even emailed him back and asked how he would be paying, and what shipping he would use. He wrote back saying he would pay with a Certified check, and arrange pickup at my location. Never once did he ask condition of the quad, or for any pictures, so should I be suspicous? I realize Canada is not all that far from central Minnesota, but you think the guy would want recent pictures, or something. So let's hear it, play it out and see if the money is valid,or tell him to go jump? I know there can be problems with money from other countries, but I'm no expert on selling items, the most I do is trade cars or sell to a buddy at work,so I'd like to hear from the more experienced out there on this deal. Thanks !!

Tell him CASH only. I can make as many Certified Checks as you want on my computer. They will even pass the bank. But then in about a week the bank will want their money back and your out one quad.
This whole deal sounds fishier than a week old carp in the AZ sun!!!!!!

Or it will turn out that his certified check is made out for more than you are asking so will you please take his check then send him the balance? He'll probably even ask to delay the pickup or shipping of your quad to make you feel better. By then he'll have cashed your check and you'd find out that his check is bogus. The reason he asks no questions about your quad is that because he has no interest in buying it, he just wants some of your money.
This has SCAM written all over it.

After reading your posts, and thinking it over a final time, I have to agree with all of you, he sounds way too eager, wants no pictures or info on the quad, and if the info about the Certified Check is accurate, then it looks like I could be out a bit of money. Question is, do I string him along, contact the Better Business Bureau, and see if I can nail his butt, or just drop it and consider it a lesson learned? What do you think the chances are of ever catching this guy, considering the fact he may not even be from Canada, maybe some guy in Africa fishing for cash scams?

Just an update, I told him I was in the process of "changing banks" and could not process a Certified Check, that I would need cash, or money order sent directly to me, no Western Union accepted. Poof! he vanished, never heard from him again. I really hate web scammers, I would like to catch them, hang them by their privates, and punch them like a speed bag.
