Never mind my last post.. I have a habit of having several reply windows open then I goof up..

Anyways, I changed the oil tonight and I looked at my screen and it was VERY clean.. Just a bit of stuff on the verry bottom by the nut.. This is my 4th or 5th oil change also...

Where is this screen on the Raptor? Is it as easy to get access to as on the DS? I have never even known about this. Kind of scary. I will also post a new reply in the Yamaha forum. Thanks alot, I appreciate it.

The nut your talking about is the one that links the hose on the RIGHT (while looking at it from the front) to the oil tank?

And the nut on the left is just a drain plug I presume? Well anyway, I did my first oil change (ugh) today. I drained the oil tank and case. But I could not remove that nut from the oil tank. I had my dad help me out, and he's a big guy...with some good leverage we still could not untighten that oil screen filter nut!

Is there something I need to do to remove it? Is it possibly lock-tited? Or do I just need to apply more force. Do you guys use wrenches or deep 18mm sockets? I'm scared to put too much force on it and maybe break something.

My DS is still sitting in my garage without oil...First, because I bought the wrong oil filter (bought the long one, forgot there were 2 kinds) and I wanted to wait and see how the h3ll im going to clean that screen.

And on another note...is it normal to have sludge around the drain plugs. Both the plug on the bottom of the case and the plug on the bottom of the oil tank were full of sludgy VERY THICK oil. Looked almost like black grease.

Thank You

Jeff

it does have some type of lock tight or something on it, i use a deep socket with a quik jolt of force, make sure if it is on there really tight make sure you hold the bottom of socket straight and use both hands.. wait till you see whats in that filter!!!!

Its a wierd fit , for some reason it almost wants to fit a 17mm i forget what i used but the socket i used was a bit loose but worked anyways, i suggest useing one that fits snug of course, if its the 18mm thats snug then do it, good luck and let me know what that filter looks like.
