HELP! What clutch to buy?
Regarding the Barnett 9 plate Carbon Fiber clutch kit. I have read in the past some conflicting topics that the use of carbon fiber in a 4 stroke engine (same oil in clutch and engine) can be detrimental. Obviously any clutch setup out there will eventual break down slightly with normal use and release the material in the oil system. Carbon fiber is a much harder material then our stock clutch, and the carbon fiber particles create a gritty oil. Hopefully our oil filter and screen will pick up any contaminants so it won't be an issue.
Any opinions on this? I know a few of you run the Barnett 9 disk setup with no problem, But I have also read some complete engine failure stories with the blame on the carbon fiber or Kevlar disk.
I would like the stay away from the 60% springs if I can due to heavy clutch pull, but I don't want to put my motor in Jeopardy.

HELP! What clutch to buy?
i have heard og the grit in the oil my self, i run the tvi springs and stock plates, with synthetic oil no problems here. there are also pami springs that will hold those plates in place. seems are a while you get to where you don't notice the clutch pull so much.

HELP! What clutch to buy?
I use the Barnett 9 disk, and the Barnett springs. They have a lighter pull then the RW60% and the Pami/Tvi. I use valvoline 50w oil(i run alky) and have had no problems in 2 years(knock on wood). Thier are plenty others that prefer the stock plates, with heavy springs.

According the Barnett web page the 9 disk kit for the DS does not contain Kevlar. From their web page:
Barnett Dirt Digger clutch kits include friction plates, steel drive plates, and a set of springs. These complete kits are available with our Series K Kevlar or CF Series Carbon Fiber friction material for most popular Japanese off-road motorcycles and ATV's.
Application DS650: part #B-651DCF (CF = Carbon Fiber)
Complete 'extra plate' Dirt Digger kit Kit consists of 9 friction plates, 9 steel plates, and one set of springs
Does this mean Kevlar is bad, but Carbon Fiber is okay?
