Default Question about my DS650 popping. Carb issue.

Hello all. I was wondering as I'm sure someone has had this same thing happen to them. I have a 2004 DS650. Its stock other than me removing the end cap on the muffler and removing the spark arrester screen and opening up the two ports on the end cap. I only have about ten hours on my bike. I rode today for about 4 hours and it only happened once but it did the same thing to me last week. What happens is when I'm at a complete stop I give the bike gas to go and it feels like it backfires as I can feel a pop under my seat. Today the bike stalled out but started right back up and was fine the rest of the ride. Is this normal ?

Yes, this is because the bike is running just a little lean. Mine would do it especially after a long down hill engine braking. Open up your air/idle screw about 1/4 turn and it will go away.

Default Question about my DS650 popping. Carb issue.

It is a screw recessed up in toward the output side of the carb. It is directly underneath. Open it up 1/4 turn and the popping will go away.

Default Question about my DS650 popping. Carb issue.

I posted a topic about my 04 ds 650 popping under the seat.(It was coming from the air box).
I received a post back saying to turn the air/idle screw 1/4 turn out and the popping would go away. The air/idle screw is recessed up in toward the output side of the carb. It is directly underneath.

If the screw is turned all the way in can someone please tell me how many turns the screw should be turn out from the factory. ????????????
I turned the screw the wrong way and ended up loosing my spot. I have no idea where to set it. Thanks, D

I think mine was at 1 1/2 - 2 but with jetting and endcap mods. set it at 3 1/2 out.

Something simple you might forget is to check that the choke is not on. Real easy to forget. As the ds650 at half choke will have this exact issue.

you might want to go to a 170 jet just to be on the safe side
if it does it when you give it throttle it is not on the pilot

and depending how much flow you are getting through that end cap it may be worth it
