stage 1 rwr questions
Just received my rwr stage 1 kit and had some questions about the carb. The adjustment screw #2 for the accelerator pump is not there. According to the Mikuni website that is the adjustment for the cutoff for the pump. Have they changed these carbs at all? Do i need that adjustment screw? Is this thing ready to bolt on like rwr says? Sorry if this is old hat for everybody but the 4-stroke thing is new for me and everything helps. Any other advice about installation of this kit? Poor directions from rwr...........

first make sure there is a pump there, pull the bowl off and look for the plunger and spring. then...
I would contact elliot at RWR and have him send you one. you want to have that screw there so the pump dont squirt to long you just want a short squirt with the crack of the throttle to compansate for the gulp of air when you nail it. I bought mine used and it didnt have the screw either, so I got one from the hardware.

The extra spring is the HEAVY spring you dont want. They refit them with the correct lighter spring. However, since that spring came from Mikuni, they give it to you anyway.
Without the pump parts you'll notice that there is a bog on the throttle response between 500 and 1500 RPM when you stab the throttle. They dont ship the parts unless you pay them. They feel the pump is not nessesary for racing, because the RPM is always well above 1500 RPM. But if you trail ride, you'll notice it not being there.
Do some searches on this forum on the TM45 - you'll find mounds of info.

esrboy,
as ODP said there is alot of past info on this. I would recomend running it w/ out the pump for starters just to try out , I herd you can compensate for not having the pump by uping the pilot to 40-45 if I remember right. I dont know what needle comes stock but you will want the #96 needle. If you want the pump when you order it get the #50 nozzle. any other questions feel free to ask.

i was trying the pump for the first time yesterday. i dont' know if i like it. my bike was running good but i think i had my squirt duration way too long now. i was watching it work. if u pump the throttle good and strong through the pump range, it squirts hard against the needle. i'm sure it would mix good with the incoming air when u stab the throttle. but if you work the throttle softly in the pump range, gas just kinda trickles out the pump jet and into the carb. i don't think that would mix good with the air??
