Default Leave the 16 tooth front sprocket or go with the 15. ?

Hey Guys. Today I got my new ITP holeshots put on the rims. I went with 22 in the rear and 23 up front. I will be riding on Sunday. I was thinking of leaving the stock front 16 tooth sprocket on to see how it is. Or should I just go and replace it now with the 15 I bought ? The bike should have more top speed with the 16 right ?

my has the 23/22 tire combo with stock gearing, i don't mind it, i'd just try it out for a day and see what you think, sometimes i think its too high but most of the time it doesn't bother me

It really all depends on what type of riding you do. For example I run the 22's with 17/40 gearing and am constantly reaching for sixth gear but all I ride is wide open fire roads, this gearing would definitely be subpar for trail riding. Funny thing, no matter how much I build the engine or how tall I gear it I can't get the same speed out of her as the RC51

I do alot of trail riding and felt the 15t sprocket worked alot better for me. 16t felt like it lost too much low end.

Not trying to hi-jack your thread Mrneg9, but...

Smaller tooth front sprocket=more low end?

>>22's with 17/40 gearing and am constantly reaching for sixth

if your pulling any decent RPMs, you're scaring me. Thats got to be a solid 90ish. You ever GPS your bike?

Mrneg9,

If you spend a fair more time in 2-3th than 5th, I would drop a tooth. If you spend a lot of time in 4th and 5th, I would *not* change the gear. If you're racing buddy is killing you on the real short races, drop two teeth.

Yeah I guess that is pretty fast huh? After hoping off the RC, fifth gear at redline on the DS just seems like slow motion but I do a lot of road riding and I really need the long legs, keep in mind this is with a Samcoe 720 and cammed/ported head with TM45. I might try 18/40 after I get the HPR 800 kit with the 48 Lectron, now that should put me in the triple digit range!
