As the one that srarted this thread I feel terrible about how Eric and HPR is being treated I never wanted to know anything about his cams, I know he keeps the specs under wraps, I don't blame him. I asked about 2 widely known and common cams Woods and Web on 2 very specific grinds. I appreciate everyones advice on other grinds to try. I had access to the 2 I mentioned which was why I asked. Eric has always been very helpful to the DS community. RWR seems to be going in another direction right now with the YFZ, we've still got good products with them. HPR is continuing the evolution of the Rotax 650. For that I applaud him and everyone else thats makeing our machines better. How he does business is his business he'll either thrive or fail but it will be up to him as to which it is. He's got dreat products and he continues to take it to the next level. I hope he lasts through these growing pains. because he's good for the sport I'm getting off my soap box now. Thanks, John

you know when you take your car to a dealer shop, With a fault that you and maybe a mechanic you know have tried to fix. For weeks with no luck

And there top mech comes out has a look and its fixed in five minutes with say just the turn of a screw.

the car probably gets left sittin in the workshop for 30 minutes or even an hour and then that is the time you pay for. Im not sure what the rates in the US are, but here its around $100 an hour.

Would you come out happy having paid $50 for a problem that you couldnt get fixed being cured. my bet is you would.

the turn of the screw didnt cost $50, it was the experiance that new which screw to turn and how far to turn it you paid for.

the problem with the secert is this quad stuff is a hobby for most on here, and info is part of the enjoyment of the hobby. has anyone asked for cam specs when they buy a cam. i have seen where they have dyno graphs of the cam changes, this being a positive. from watching and racing i don't think the difference will make up for a bad rider. but a bunch of small positives will help.

yeah i see your point about the hobby bit .
I like to get as much info as i can on stuff before i part with the cash and love to see dyno charts comparing different parts, and its somthing that i think all builders should do post before and after dyno's so you can see what you get for your $ not just a claimed number.
but i still would not excpect to be handed info on on how he made the bit do what it does without paying for it.
if a builder can say this cam /carb/ pipe / whatever will give you this result and produce a dyno to prove it
and this is the price, thats good enough for me.

i am a mechanic myself so maybe i am looking from a biased position, got to justify the wages some how

It is still funny to me, everytime Erics name is brought up the is a band wagon of people who ride through and try to make him sound like the enemy. People come on, he is an enthusiast for speed like you and me. Like I have said before, its mainly people who havent even bought a sticker from him and havent tried his products, and probably never will. I have never had any problems with him, or his products. I Have spent a fair amount of money with him, and am extremely pleased with the final product. I think this crap gets blown out of proportion by the same people over and over, maybe you would feel better if you could come to grips w/your jealousy. Eric, and Randall thanks for returning my phone calls and being patient even when I tend to ramble on sometimes. I saw a good quote the other day, I think it can be applied here. "Every time you throw dirt, you loose ground".

PS for people who have found this topic in a search, at some day later than today, keep digging, and you will see a correlation to the people complaining and trying to make HPR look like something it is not. You will notice its the same people over and over.

This is my last reply in this thread. If you have any questions or comments regarding this topic or relating, PM me and we can talk there.
Later
JD

Back to cams..... when I first started to rattle Eric's ear about cams, he could have tried to sell me the world. His cams were more expensive and I'm sure would have made more money. But he steered me to a 109 and to keep my exhaust stock.

Again, MAKE NO MISTAKE..... custom grinds do (most of the time) make better power for a particular setup/rider/condition. I for one would LOVE to have one of HPR's custom grinds. I just can't afford it!

I hope to be going to the next level with a big bore kit, and HPR is at the top of my short list.

To echo JDsBusa, keep digging and asking questions. Even if you make a couple of mistakes when purchasing and testing, the knowledge you gain will be priceless. I think that is the most sound advise I've heard from this thread - well said.

Now for any of you punks want to take my sled on in flats or hills...... bring it on! Remember though, to make it even you have to have a second rider on the back to make it even!

Boys, cant we all get along? To each his own, but dont do business with someone you dont like or trust. It dont do any of us any good to b!tch and moan. For me not a single one of you have chirped up and answered a single question I had, just b!tch and moan. Why you boys on this forum, I'd bet the same reason I am, to share and learn information on your rides. Does anyone really know anything about these cams, or is this all bullsh!t to stroke each others egos? So when purchasing a needed product, do you always buy the most expensive, least. I'll bet niether. You get the best bang for your buck. Eric, the Bom, Mark, I know all of you are reading this, pm me and tell me why I should buy your products, it sure dont look like this is going anywhere.

Oh and one last thing, you homos still dragging up the end cap thing, give it a rest! I own a HPR endcap and am still sick of hearing about this. I wonder why every aftermarket part looks similar, there all one offs of each other. Shady businesses, bull **** I didnt get where I'm at after just one day a light come beaming down on top of me and POW I know everything. We all take what we have learned from others and use it to our best ability, GIVE IT UP! Jed

Jed,

I have stated that my favorite cam is the Ron Wood A1A2 and what I currently run, which is the Web 109s, and they are too slow revving for my style.

I really dont get tired of trudging through all the BS. However, I did think it was interesting what Bigger said about the mixed cam. If you wade through all the BS, there is still some good info on here.

I do try my best not to get involved with the personal stuff - I think you'll find me at least several notches lower than most. I must be getting old! LOL
