This was an interesting find!

Okay, I pulled the side cover. Every thing is there, I pulled the drive gear, thrust washer impeller and shaft. There is no sign of wear anywhere. The only thing I can find, there is a little play in the drive gear where it "snaps" over the drive pin. If I pull on there gear until it stops, put the pump cover back on, and push the shaft all the way against the thrust washer, the impeller DOES rub the cover.
If I remove the pump cover, push the drive gear on as far as it will go, put the pump cover back on, push the drive gear against the thrust washer, the impeller does NOT rub.
I am thinking I need a new drive gear. What are your thoughts and/or ideas.
After removing the impeller and upon closer inspection in better light, it is worn. The wear coincides with the wear i=on the inside of the pump cover.
Should I replace the impeller, cover AND drive gear? Is the gap between the pump cover and the impeller that critical?
