Roll call for ds days!
#161
I just got back home. DS Days had about 20-30 DS folks show up. The core group that camped with us numbered about 20. There was a lot of NOS DS's there and Gary's turbo was there too. Riding went pretty late last night. I think Jed's crew probably got the most riding in. He can give you a report as to how they all the DS's stacked up. One of my EX's ultralight rear tires ended up with a pretty big hole in it so I manned the pit area back at camp.
To be honest, I had a hard time getting into the event after going back to my motel everynight and watching the Katrina disaster on TV. But I did have fun - I enjoyed talking with SLC650, 650VIPER, Gary, Blackhawk, Scatterbrain, Duneme, Jetsnow, Sandaholic, and so many others. The core group was pretty hospitible. Everyone helped each other out - sharing tools, food, chairs, and a campfire every evening. I might also add that Duneme got quite excited after a few swigs of Blackhawk's Apple Pie (you lightweight! - LOL). The next day I got toasted and was quite content leaving my flat tire unfixed and enjoying the scenery - I even got some 4X4ing in (after a few recovery hours). I did not see a single UFO all day - oh well.
Jed brought TONS of NOS for his group - and Gary had a refill station in his trailer. I drove down with Fernando, his bro, and two friends. At least two of them had never been to Sand Mountain before. The crowd was not as big as Memorial Day, but it was still very busy. Law enforcement was friendly and had just the right amount of control. There was at least one minor crash in our group - but nobody got hurt seriously.
There was a group picture which Im sure someone will post in the next few days. Blackhawk was nice enough to let us mount the new plastic for everyone to see. I'm going through the pics in the next hour and will post what I have.
As far as quads, in our group - we had DS's (of course), several EX's, Predators, and YFZ's. This is my kind of event. There was racing, but it was not so serious that the brotherhood of the event was lost. I felt it wasn't too commercial either. It certainly could have been with all the ego's there - Yes, Gary and I exchanged a few jabs, but we pretty much always left with a smile on our faces.

I didnt take any line up pics - Someone wanted me to sit on Blackhawks DS with the neon plastic - But there were plenty of people snaping pics - so expect some in the next day or so. If anybody has one, email them to me and I'll post them if you want.

Well we made it home about 3 hours ago and just in time as we tried to do a repeat of jeds last DS days and run out of gas the computer on the truck said 20 miles left till empty and the low fuel light came on just as we turned off of the interstate.
As for me I am still quite sore from the wreck and will have a few good bruses to show for it for a while. For thoes of you that didn't here already I t-boned a yfz that turned right infront of me as I was doing a N02 run up the hill. I would say that I was doing about 50 when I taged him. the bike is fine it ended up with just a scrach on the bumper and he got knocked out as I flew buy him in the air. Jed did however come flying up to my aid as he said that all he could see was the bottom of my bike and he expected to see the worst but as it ended up every one including bike came out of it pretty much unscathed for the speed involved.
Well it is bed time but before I go I would like to thank marky and gary for coming down and supporting the DS community, and every one else that came out it sure was nice to put a face the the names. Duneme it was a pleasure as always and sean I hope next year you can stay a bit longer but it was good to see you. Marky I will be in touch about the littly shinny think that jed had as I was very inpressed with it.
Jed, rack up another great trip as it is always a pleasure to ride with you and your brother. I think that next year I will be right there with you guys instead of having my eares blown off buy those pipes of yours. LOL

Just got back in a few hours ago from Sand Mt. Had a great time, good meeting everyone and had some great dune rides. By far some of the longest and steepest dunes I have ridden on.
Also wanted to give a big thanks to Kelly from KMS, he was out there with his family this weekend and spent a good amount of time wrenching on allot of his customer's quads and even some non customer's quads.

Well it was some good times. Thanks go out to Marky, Gary and Kelly for showing up and supporting Ds days again. Its always fun to have builders showing off there stuff. Gary that bike of your it sharp!
As for everyone else, many names I cant remember so I wont try, thank you for the hospitality and good times. And for the saturday late night crowd, man my gut hurt in the morning from laughing. Coffeeroaster, I hope you girlfriend dont hate men after that night, lol.
For those that didnt make it, you missed a really good time, and should put it on the schedule for next year. Somebody mentioned it is going to be in Utah Next year. If so you boys need to come!
The turbo bikes were turning the fastest speeds up the hill. I think I heard a 69ish somewhere.
Duneme bike with me on it ran a 52 all motor. Very impressive!
Dsaholic bike ran a 49
My brothers bike ran a 52
I ran a 56
SLC650 ran a 38
THe fastest speed I seen was Kelleys raptor at 57 on my gun, but thats the same bike I heard that ran the 69 later in the day.
Once they get them turbo bikes to come out of the hole, there going to be some bigcontenders.
Crackerjack, your old quad wasdown there, I ran him and he was catching me all the way up the hill, but still was 20 lengths off. They were not using nitrous and were still not use to the machine. It was pulling faster mph then mine though.
I seen the HPR 730 with n2o there. It was pulling the big guy up the hill fast. I tried to talk to him but he didnt want anything to do with me.I looked forward to throwing sand on him with my little 650 but didnt get the chance!!! Never seen him out again.
To all that come out, thanks again for the good times, hope to see you all again soon!
I will post the pics I have on my page here shortly.
