Exhaust header pipe question. Heat tape or paint ???
Hey guys. I was looking at the DS today and don't like the look of the light color rust orange the exhaust header pipe is. I was thinking of wrapping it in black header tape or painting it with high temp black paint. Header tape and ties are going to cost me around $50.00. Or I can go with Duplicolors high temp paint. $5.99
Resists temperatures up to 1200 degrees F, intermittently
Durable ceramic formulation
Tough cured finish resists oil, gas grease, rust, salt, humidity, and solvents
6 colors
EZ Touch®
I'm sure a couple of you guys have already been down this road. If I go with the paint is 1200 degrees F enough or will it burn off. Thanks, D

been there done this..........Use the header wrap!!!!!!!!! My wifes quad would fry your leg off from the head pipe....so I used header wrap to keep the heat off your leg a bit..........Ends up...it looks cool and clean, it keeps the heat off your leg, and it keeps the head cooler also (the pipe is 1"1/2 inches from the head) ......The only thing about the header wrap is...............Do not let it sit wet. Any time you get it wet...run the bike until it is dry, and store it in a dry place. The header wrap will hold water and it will rust your headpipe QUICK!
The paint ALWAYS discolors................

I think you might be able to use paint for wood stoves usually only black. I think they were rated at 2000 or 5000 deg. cant remember. they may hold up w/ that.
I do belive the pipes are SS. I would think one could take them off and clean them up to look good again.
what ever you use know how it goes.
