Scatter, one full turn is about 10 jets numbers, a huge jump. You are way rich, way rich. If you ride at 4300' like you will this weekend, put in a 30ish pj, then tune the needle from there. You might not have needed more fuel with them mods, but less. More air flow creates more vacume, which in turn pulls more fuel and raises your volumetric efficiency. Try going back to where you were first, then adjust a little from there. If you had a 10pj in there go to a 20, and leave the needle alone, see what that does. If it seems to rich all the way through, lean out the needle. Remember the pj is an added circuit, its not needed for all around use. Its to supplement the carb under high vacume. So tune the carb like its not there then if you set good but the top is lean, up the power jet. I know I danced around a little so I hope you followed me, Jed.
By the way we can get that running at Ds Days, dont sweat it!

Im following you. Seems like with more flow through the head you would want more fuel. My 48 is a dual power jet when 222 sent it to me it had two 10's in it. I will turn the needle back to the begining and start over. Im going out right now to work on it. Im following you right now but if I get this right you'll be following me I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Rite now i have the 45 power jet in . my air screw is turned out 2 and a half turns and the idle screw is at about one turn. Im running the 13 to 1 compression and im a little rich. We stay at about 100 degreas all summer. If i was to take it to pismo tommorrow it would lean up perfect to a light brown from a darker brownish/ black a little wet but runs great. Im using the boondockers 12oz bottle that hides up under the seat and im gonna use a four hole nozzel. They said it is easier to tune than the 5 hole one . As far as idle mine idles around 1900 or so. but its not a smoothe stock idle more like a blop blop and so on if i dont hit the throttle every 7 or 8 seconds it tries to load up on me. I feel its better to be safe than sorry. As far as power problems from being a little rich i have none. Hopefuly i will get the head back this week. Eric said the valve guide turned inside the head allowing the oil to pass rite through and out the head pipes. even leaking oil out it still was a screamer. hope you get it figured out.

Viper hit it on the head here. . .
If you have more flow through your head, you have more velocity through your carb.
More velocity through your carb means you have more vacuum pulling the fuel out of the bowl, through the jet and into the the throat of the carb for atomizing.
Sometimes this all works and you actually have to jet down. . .sometimes you have to jet up (like if your carb is too big and velocity isn't dramatically improved.)

Hey scatter thats the man you want to talk to about the nitrous kit you getting. 650 viper gave me alot of information on which nozzal and how to tune it. It doesn't hurt to ask for information once in a while. If it wasn't for everyones knowledge on here we still might be doing against the garage wall test. Hey jed i want to thank you for turning me on to your local dealership. He is great to work with and even with shipping he still beats my dealer 20 miles away. anyway thanks again

LMAO! I was considering the wall test as a last ditch effort. I worked on it tonight and its alot better. Still alot of room for improvement. Im a bit rich right now so I might just leave it alone until friday. I got my bottle all mounted up, still got a little wiring to do. Im going to wait till this weekend before I try it out. I want to make real sure I have it right before I push the little red button. I think I understand the whole vacume thing now. I know this carb is alot different than all the others its just going to take a little time to get dialed in.
I forgot to mention that a buddy of mine is coming along with me. He has a graphics bus. he's going to do custom graphics on the spot he can make just about anything you can dream of. Just thought I would give you a heads up. Very cool stuff.

I dont think im gonna make it. Jed said the kit will be here tommorrow and i missed Erics call, he wanted to know how i wanted my stuff shipped over night 2 day or whatever. They would have shipped it to me today but i wasn't able to call them back before ups ran. and last but not least, ace fab called and they are waiting for the bearings to come in so they can install them and ship it out. Who knows if i get my head and nitrous kit i just might pull an all nighter and get her put together. I guess i could run it without the extended swingarm. Just have to be real careful. I think it takes about 5 hours to get there from where i live so if i could wrap it all up by 3 i could be there by 8 or 9. anyway im gonna try.

2big, I have a whole set of rear bearings if ya need them. I can bring them with me. Call TVI on the fronts he stocks alot of that stuff. You could always have them ship it to a location in Fallon and do your install at Sand Mt. I can help you get the head installed Ive been through it twice now, piece of cake. just dont ask me about the Lectron! Only problem I see is finding a garage wall to tune it up on
Man your sounding like me now always down to the wire. Im still waiting on the K&N filter so I can finish my nitrous install. The race is on!
Im still tuning on this thing. I got the needle working good now I think. Ive rejetted the power jets down from 55 to 45 to 35 and Im still getting some snap at about 8000 rpm. I have the vortex on map1 rev limiter is 8900 and it wont pull up to it I will try a 25 and a 20 today. I just cant imagine it being any less than 25. Randall sent it to me with two 10's in it. He set it up for the 730 kit and stock head. At the coast he had me block off one of the power jets so it was actually only running on a 10. Come to think of it I actually cut a tenth off my 300 ft. time. 5.9 @ 62mph. So maybe 20 isnt too small. Im at about 4300ft here at home, could be even less than twenty. What do you think?

Scatterbrain why did you jet richer after the cylinder head was ported? And whats wrong with white plugs?
By the way the air bleed screw is for idle only.
