Is your fan cycling on and off? Check the thermo swith fan control. It will be one of two, the one with the two exposed connectors and facing towards the rear of the bike. They're around $19 from Parker Yamaha.
I speak from experience.

This is probably an easy fix , but we need some more info.
1 - has it always done this or did it just start - if it just started what changed
2 - improper jetting can cause a bike to over heat - how is yours
3 - check the rad - can you see threw it or is it plugged
4 - is the fan working - fan should cycle on after about 5-10 minutes of idling
5 - is the red light comming on - or how do you now its overheating ???

Good be poor jetting, too much tire spin- this happens with the stock size small tires, gearing-if been changed

Has it ever been overheated?

That might have caused some problems.
