How much of the DS lining can be bored before needing to renikasil the cylinder? the 102 or the 103 piston? Anyone done these bores?

hurycne, why dont you just put an iron liner in it and go with 105mm bore/piston? you will have 719cc then. thats what mine has and i would like to ask knutz if it is any good? an iron liner with no nikasil.

That is no good for me you paid 5700 for that? The coated cylinder has its advantages. I think that the 103 is plenty bore without the stroke to go with it.

Also I have heard the head is hard to seal with that bore.

any time a nikasil cyliner is bored, it needs to be replated, the nikasil plating can not just be bored to the next size. I had to have my motor in my snowmobile renikasiled a couple years ago, it costs about $150 a cylinder.

Zukiscott is correct! Any bore at all requires the cylinder be re-nicasiled.

The 105 bore with a steel liner/sleeve is not exactly something I would recomend. In order for the sleace to maintain any wall thickness, it must intrude on the water passages. Now you have a design with worse heat transfer properties[sleaved cylinder] than stock, with smaller water passages as well. This is likely to cause heat issues inside the cylinder. I've not seen the cylinder, so I can't tell you if the head would seal well or not, but there is no reason that it won't seal stricktly due to the bore. The fact that it's a sleave is not an issue, most ATV motors are done that way. It will not hold the bore as long as the nicasiled cylinder, but it should not wear any faster than most ATV motors either.
