Default I need new clutch plates AGAIN. just need some advice.

Well I just put new plates in last fall and they are shot again(I think from running the wrong oil). i am now using good oil, valvoline mortorcycle oil. These were the stock plates but I don't want to be putting new clutch plates in once a year, I JUST WONT DO IT! I have now got barnett clutch springs but it still slips because of the plates.
My question is is there ANY better clutch plates that are better than stock? I need to know what to do because I'm not going to be doing this all the time. Like I said though I have better springs and I am planning on buying new STOCK plates UNLESS SOMEONE CAN POINT ME IN A BETTER DIRECTION, IF THERE IS ONE. Thanks to EagleCollector for the barnett springs.

the only aftermarket disks I'm aware of are the barnetts, and from what I've heard they are no better, but I do believe that the stockers are just fine and last quite a while IF you have aftermarket springs. the stock springs cannot handle more power than a full stock bike makes - just the addition of a pipe and cdi make the need for stiffer springs. its the week springs that cause the clutch to slip initially, in turn causing rapid wear of the disks. I went down the same road myself, but have since put quite a few hours on a new set of disks with stiffer springs and much added hp on my motor, and they have been holding fine so far, in spite of many many hard drag runs.

Ya, I think that's what I will do since I only have a pipe, power kit, and K&N filter. i put the wrong oil in it once and it just went down hill from there.

Well now that I am aware that the only after market clutch is the barnett, should I buy new STOCK plates or barnett plates? Other info will be fine too.

you might want to check and see if you got your clutch plates in right last time, the outside disk off set the other disks. gary at tvi told me about this, the outside one is another part number. might be something to check, might be that the damage is done but might make it work better next time.

I know why they are shot, because I ran the wrong oil once and it hasn't been right ever since. I also had the clutch in right, I have a manual and I know it was in right.

i also heard that you can get an extra metal disk and put two in first. then the rest like it should. i heard this helps but i want to know if it really does.

I think the barnett clutch 9 disk system is AWESOME ! They will NOT slip, I also use Valvoline oil. But their seems to be a down side to the barnett clutch, It is very hard for me to find neutral now. I just kill it in gear and it dont bother me now, No one should sit their and let the quad idle anyway(thats why we bought the electric start)

I know you'll be happy with the Barnett clutch, If you can get passed the whole neutral thing.

Ask Eaglecollector about Barnett clutches!! He smoked 2 of them in a week if I remember correctly. I would just stick with the stock clutches and get some 60% aftermarket springs, either TVI or Ron Woods has them in stock. RWR is a little less expensive than TVI. You will never have any slippage again!! Also put all your steel plates together and measure the thickness with a dial caliper, I think the minimum is .465 or something like that. Mine measure .495 so they were still fine. Just make sure you do a 90 degree cross hatch pattern on them with some 280 grit sand paper and you will be just fine.
