Default how can i tell if my clutch is bad?

i was out riding today on my 400EX, and after about a half hour of riding, i noticed that whenever i changed gears, i could hear it popping into gear. it made a soft klunk. is this a sign of a bad clutch?

Your clutch cable may only need adjusting. Check that out first before you spend a bunch of money that you don't have too!
