I think you mean it takes less than a second. I passed out one time while driving right after I had gotten my license from lack of sleep. I was out for about 2 seconds before drifting out of my lane and hitting another car.

Luckily I woke up and regained control but if I hadn't I would very likely be dead right now.

Texting while driving is by far one of the stupidest and most dangerous things a person can do behind the wheel of a car.

People try to use the radio station changing argument. I can change the radio in ym truck without even looking at it. I know where the buttons are and I know what stations are on each button without looking. If I hook up my phone to listen music I do it while I'm stopped at a light or before I leave wherever I am.

They are going to do the same here in Wisconsin, banning talking on the phone or texting while driving. Thats fine for me noone ever calls me that much just my buddies and it is a 30 sec conversation. Now my wife on the other hand will go nuts. LOL They have those hand free units you can buy to talk on the phone now. I wonder if they will ban those too.

I can't wait for them to ban it in Wisconsin. It's getting kind of crazy how distracted most people are when they are driving. I see high school students weaving all the time around a nearby shopping mall and most of the time their eyes are glued to a damn cellphone. It's fun to brake check them. I'm not too worried about them rear ending my truck. Last person who did that punched a hole in their radiator with the trailer hitch and totaled the car.

I personally can't see the benefit to texting. In the amount of time it takes me to type the text message I could have called a person and told them 10 times the information before I've even sent the message.

For talking I usually have my phone hooked up to the aux in on my trucks radio so I don't have to hold the phone. As far as the cops will know I'm some crazy guy talking to myself.

Yep, the "swerve back." I see it all the time passing a local highschool. The drift and catch. Always makes me worry, especially since so many other kids are walking home from school.

One benefit of texting for me is (Or at least here in Co) Is when you are out in the boonies ATVing a text can go through whereas a call will not.

I can understand that as I have been in places where calls just don't work but a text will if you hold the phone at the right angle about 6.3 feet from the ground while standing on one foot.

Though last time I checked drive 40 mph behind the wheel of car in the middle of a city is not the boonies.

Agreed 100% -- If people call me while I am driving, then 2 things happen. First being "Hey I'll call you back" or if I NEED to answer and talk - I pull off the road - talk - then drive again.
