I ride with a helmet in the summer and a chest protector since we've moving fast. I don't ride with a helmet when the tracks are on, but probably should just to keep the dude on the sled going 75mph from piercing my skull with his ski. Love riding without a helmet.
Get this......A guy a ride with is super religious and he fly's around without a helmet and chest protection. He actually thinks Jesus is looking out for him and he's not concerned in any way that he may be in danger doing 60mph on a stretch of loose gravel and rocks. He's never actually come out and told me "Jesus is looking out for me", but he's alluded to it, more than once. I think he's lost his friggin' mind, but I'll leave it there. Scares the crap out of me sometimes. I really don't want to have to tell his wife something bad happened.

I have survived not one, but TWO, high speed head-on deer/motorcycle collisions(2001/60mph and 2007/70mph). Aside from luck and crashing skills from my racing days it was my helmet and gear that saved my bacon. Walked away from both crashes(broken shoulder in 2001 and minor road rash in 2007). Both deer and bikes did not survive. Needless to say, unless I am plowing in my yard, I never ride without a helmet and gear.
