Marky, Use the 4stroke tech oil cooler, its the way to go. It droips oil temps alot more than a bigger tank, feeds cool oil right to the valve train, and adds 1/2 quart capacity.
KGB,

This is the oil cooler I am looking at:

"Why Upgrade from your stock tank? Failures have been numerous, some causing sever engine failure with stock OEM oil tanks, that crack and leak. These hand-fabricated aluminum tanks by ACE offer a stronger design, higher quality workmanship, increased oil capacity, (approx. 20 oz.) and stainless steel braided oil lines with #6 AN end fittings. Engine oil can now become cooler because of increased Oil capacity, special cooling vents in the tank that actually flow cool fresh air through the center of ACE oil tank, and a uniquely designed return oil system that runs oil around special cooling vents. This kit is supplied complete with all necessary mounting hardware and stainless steel braided oil lines and instructions are included. Finish: Matte Finish (Bead Blasted Aluminum). "

Chuck is a good mechanic - you are in good hands. As far as the parts - not a problem.

It's 13:1 because thats what JE rated it for on the 400EX, and Duncan Racing tested it at using the method you mentioned. I don't take any one persons advice on what they say, I do the research and find the documentation to support the compression rating.

My only concern now is overheating. Even though I am using a HP4 semi-synthetic, I am looking at the largest capacity cooling oil tank I can find and right now thats the ACE oil tank. When the funds are in, thats next on the shopping list.

Marky
Marky at least you were knowing to find the actual comp. A lot of people are kept from knowing so much of the info and even more so when your having the work done at a shop etc. I know the guy who had mine done before I purchased the quad thought he had allmost 11:1 comp, but that was allmost impossible with the piston being over .030 in the hole at TDC and he is very knowledgable in this business etc.

I am with you on the oil tank but I refuse to spend $200 on $20 worth of aluminum, and I am planning on making a custom extension to a stk tank.

Have you given any thought to a aux oil cooler? I hear nothing but great things about them and will be testing either the FST one or just running a second stock unit etc. The heat is deff a lot more than with a stock engine so this has to be worked on too.

Glad to hear I am not the only one with pretty much no real problems running higher comp ratios. Maybe just keeping an eye on the engine and understanding that you cant heavilly mod an engine without it needing additional maintenence is helping us both not have the experience that Fred did.
