Hey everyone.
Let me start by saying that I have never had my own quad..I have 2 dirt bikes which are an XR250R and then I moved up to a CR250R.
I have been riding since I was 16(I am now 19). The only quads I have rode were my uncle's 92 Honda Fourtrax 300 4x4 and a Polaris sportsman 500.
Since the 400ex came out in 99 I have wanted one but got into dirt bikes instead for some reason. Probably because of my mtn bike background. Was use to 2 wheels instead of 4.
But now I am thinking about getting a 400ex. I would like to have a sport quad to mess around on..and I know its not the fastest but will be the only one I can really afford that I would want. And I have wanted it for a long time anyhow.
What i am concerned about it the 400ex's power..I am coming off a CR250R that has between 43 and 45 horsepower and weighs about 220 pounds...versus the 400ex having no where near those HP numbers and being almost 400 pounds I think. Will it feel like a total slug to me you think?
I hear the 400ex's are awesome wheelie machines and thats one thing that I want. I can't ride a wheelie on a dirt bike for crap for the most part even though my CR will pull one up super easily. Do they really wheelie very easy? Thanks guys. Matt

my friend has a cr250r and yea the 400ex would proly feel pretty slow. but they are a great quad to mess around on. and i guess your used to no reverse since you been riding bikes. and fro the price i think its well worth the money, the 400 is very reliable.
oh and for wheelies, its realy easy, the 400ex has a good amount of torque. i can ride them for ever, sometimes i can pull them up in 3rd. you wont have and trouble, doing wheelies in the 400ex is VERY easy compared to some other sport quads.

the 400ex has 26 hp stock and weighs 375 pounds. There will be a difference in power definately. Since you are used to kick start and faster machines, I would go for the 450R. I have not ridden one yet, but it is going to have more power and weigh less than the 400ex. If the 450R is out of your price range. I would go for the 400ex, yes it wheelies very well and has good power for a first quad. They are extremely reliable and the aftermarket for them is huge. What the 400ex lacks in power it makes up in handling
