Default Which Transmission is best...Rincon or Rubicon?

If they could beef up the Hondamatic to match the 650 (or bigger) motor, they could actually be on top again. As it stands now, it looks like they're out of the running.
Hmm, they put it on 750cc street bikes 20 years ago but it wont handle the power from an atv???

Kinda what I thought too, but that was Honda's reasoning back when the Rincon first came out. Everyone was asking "why the 3 speed?". That was Hondas reply.

Even without consideration to the lack of compresison braking below 7mph (too fast for the trails I decend) you gotta love the hydro-static drive system in the Rubicon as its design has been time proven in everything from scooters to bulldozers.

I have never been able to figure why the Rincon got a three speed other than Honda did it simply as a company challenge to see if they could, like the Rune motorcycle and the S2000 Roadster.

The Honda Insight;

Starting
MSRP Trim
Level $19,330

$21,530 with Insight with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

They put the their CVT trans in the Rubicon, 750 cc motorcycles and the Honda Insight.

I personally think it was simply a company challenge.

I dont know, when i test rode the power of the rincon it had less power that most 500cc machines. How could it not hold up to a 650 that puts out 500cc power?

You are so true. I love the rubs tranny. I wish I could have that sucker on my kawa 700 prairie. I think the rubes tranny is the best out there. If honda had that on the rincon, it would be a huge plus.

I think too that if Honda had used the Hondamatic in the Rincon, they would sell very few Rubicons. But then they might sell 10 times as many Rincons by attracting buyers from other brands.

No you can't. The crankcase is in unit with the gearbox on both machines. There are now two totally different Rubicons anyway. The new one has a Hi/Lo + 5 speed manual box with electronic override, so it decides when to change gear (when in auto mode). Old model was hydraulic CVT.

Maybe Honda will introduce a more powerful Rubicon soon. The only thing the Rincon has it beat on is power and that's about it. Put a more powerful engine in the Rubicon and the Rincon becomes completely obsolete.
