They really slapped the face of Honda

after reading the last 6 pages i fear to make a comment on this heated debate! LOL!.....but i will anyways.
many pages ago someone wrote that IF the Rincon came with EFI, locker, and a price tag around $7500 he would buy it. i agree! i would to!
i couldn't care less about HDTV, wireless internet, ipods, and all that high tech stuff out there. my 10 year old 27" Toshiba TV works just fine. i'm about as LOW TECH as they come.
when it comes to my ATVs, i also want just the basics.
after owning EFI, i would be hard pressed to ever go back to carb. it's just too easy to turn the key and go!
IRS is a TERRIFIC ride. i'd be hard pressed to ever go back to a solid axle.
i also expect ALL 4 tires to spin when i lose traction. i would be hard pressed to ever go back to 3 wheel drive. same thing when it comes to selectable 2/4WD, liquid cooling, and excellent STOCK tires.
as a prev Honda owner for 25 years, when i tried my first Polaris in '95, i saw what i've been missing-out on. i've been with Polaris for the last 10 years and still wonder why Honda can't produce something as convenient! (IRS, true 4X4, disc f+r, and most importantly EFI)
i think the "Ketchup" article was well written and too long in coming!
a parent buying a "safe" ATV for their child, i would expect them to buy a Honda. it's stable, reliable, and underpowered. that's fine for a child. i want more and expect much more from an ATV Mfg for myself. and that is why i ride what i do.
(i'm sorry if i've hurt any Honda owner's feelings. just keep in mind it's only my perception and opinion)

MYPOCKETS,
I also thought the Ketchup article was right on and in order, even a little 'late' if you ask some folks?
I rode my Rincon for a little over two yrs and I liked the quad alot..After a while,I just felt like I was missing the 'fun factor' that Greg Hall wrote about in his article..I STILL like the Rincon, but after owning the new KQ for allmost 5 months now,EVERY ride I take on it makes it EASIER to forget the Rincon..
RubiconToughGuy---
You own a Honda ATV and even today, many things about them is OLD/OUTDATED,but yet you have the nerve to call a belt drive ATV ANCIENT??Im not sure I understand that comment.
How many HONDA'S have you ever seen win a mudding event,or a sled pull??Its allmost allways a rubberband ATV that wins..Now,dont get me wrong,I have had some BAD belt driven ATVs in the past, but I've also has some good ones, and right now,im very pleased with the belt drive on the new KQ.
Enjoy your Honda, its a fine machine.

Muddy not trying to knock belt quads what you say is true, but for those who call honda outdated, I believe the automatic hydromechanical engine is about as innovative as it gets right now. It might not have blazing acceleration that goes 80 mph but then again its a utility quad. What it does get you is dependability.

12 years.......6 brands on the showroom.
All of a sudden Honda is falling behind because it doesn't offer a diff lock, huge ground clearance, and a 45HP engine???
Gimme a break.
That artricle is BS aimed at getting Honda's attention at implementing some of these features on the 750 while they have a chance to now.
Honda focuses more on the industry as a whole more and customer feedback than any other company and you wont find another multi-line dealer on this forum who will disagree with me on that one.
Honda folks buy Honda because it's a Honda?? I know that alot of them do. I see it everyday....but it's no where near the exageratted ammount that the article (or this thread) implies.
But there is bass ackwards thinking going on here. Honda is not number in sales because people are buying what they don't want. To suggest something as that is ridiculous.
It's simple, if you don't want a Honda because it doesn't have what you want, then don't buy it.
For you to buy it anyway and then to complain about it is hypocritical.

RubiconToughGuy,
I agree, the Auto tranny on the Honda's are nice[never a slipping belt to worry about],BUT,even they could use some upgrade's IMO..Lets take the tranny on the Rincon for example..Put ONE more gear in this tranny, and it would would be very tough to knock anything about this transmission except maybe its 'cold starting' and being able to take right off.
KNOWSALOT,-I disagree,I dont think Greg Halls article was designed to grab Honda's attention NOW to get them to add more features to the new 750[IF there is even one in the making?]I beleive his article was in regards to what MANY past and present Honda riders REALLY feel inside.
And you dont have to be concidered a hypocrite to buy a particular ATV and than talk about its shortcomings either..I owned one of the worst POS Polaris ATVs known to mankind..I COMPLAINED everyday about the mechanical breakdowns of this quad,BUT,you know what,I went and bought another Polaris in hopes that 'maybe' just my first one was a lemon[I LOVED the FEATURES on a Polaris]?The second Polaris was worst than the first, with more breakdowns ECT...I was SO tired of breakdowns with these ATVs,that I was ready/willing to purchase a brand of quad that held the leading edge when folks said the word reliability, even though it lacked certain FEATURES I REALLY liked..They call this quad the Honda Rincon..After over 2 yrs of riding this machine,I become BORED with what it did'nt have in regards to features and bought the new KQ..With allmost 5 months of seat time on the new KQ now,the shortcomings of the Rincon REALLY show up..I dont call this hypocritical,I call it comparison..
There were shortcomings on the Rincon that I just 'put up with' and did'nt really think twice about UNTIL I had some 'seat time' on the KQ and these shortcomings started to become much more appearant..Lets take engine breaking for example?I cant beleive that I rode the Rincon this long with such poor 'down hill' engine braking..And the lack of a LOW range [or even another gear] really comes to mind also..The leaky front drums on the Rinny?
Now there were alot of good things that attracted me to this Rincon also, especially given the fact of a tranny that does not run on belts..And its trail manners are EXCEPTIONAL..I did have a few tranny issues and it took me 3 DIFFERANT dealers before I finally got my problem resolved..And Honda had the nerve to tell my last dealership that they [Honda] would pay for parts IF I would have agreed to pay for the mechanical breakdown labor to find out what was causing my problem..You can just GUESS what I told Honda??My tranny problem occured within the NORMAL 6 months warrenty of the quad, but NO ONE could figure it out..It finally got SO bad out of warrenty,I took it in and than the BS with Honda started..Anyways,Honda DID wind up paying the entire repair bill...
Honda may be #1 in ATV sales RIGHT NOW,but Polaris will SOON overtake that spot--and,
Remember--Grag Hall and I told you so!

i already know i will be Flamed upon here shortly, but you know its true so dont get mad at me, get mad at HONDA for making a boring out-dated line up of atv's. granted i dont mind the older models (like mid to late 90's). but now, all they have done was take that same exact age-old technology and put "new and improved PLASTICS" on them and bam, you have the 2005 lineup.
its true that other manufactures also use one base style in all their utility quads, but they also have up to date features, and alot of stuff that actually makes them worth all the money we pay for them. unlike what honda is doing. if honda updated all their quads, than you bet they will sell alot more of them.
