We have done this post a thousand times, so a search will net you all kinds of opinions. You didn't say what kind of riding you will be doing, but you live in Minnesota, so you are probably a trail rider, unless you ride the track.

The TRX is a trail bike that can be adapted for the track, and the YFZ is a track bike that can be adapted to the trail. I would pick the Yamaha if I rode MX, a lot of play riding (casual MX), or did freestyle jumping. I don't do any of these, so naturally I don't own one. I pick the Honda for the open desert, and fast open trails.

If you mostly ride slower, very tight trails, you don't want either of these! In that case, you want a Z400 or if the trails are REALLY tight, the 400EX.

well tell ya what i was looking at both of them and i went with the YFZ and couldnt go wrong they have upgrades for them that dont cost anything and you wont haveta worry about kick starting the damn thing... and they weigh the same... the 450r has a very light front in and the weight on the yfz is equal all around... and if you have like 800 bucks or so you can get some ups for it and make it out run most things out there... with my YFZ personally i beat 450r's all day and some that were upgraded...

hit me up if you have any ques. between the two...

The kick starting thing is no big deal. Cold or hot, one kick, every time. Kicks as easy as any 2-stroke. Just be carefull to use the hot start button and never touch the throtle during a hot start.

I sat on both and felt cramped on the YFZ. I am 6'3" 220 lbs. I don't ride mx and that seat looked like it would kill my backside. I chose the 450R and it rips. I haven't noticed a light front end, it doesn't come up as easy as my old 400ex did. It jumps like a dream, and it takes little effort to get it to land correct. We play around and flat track race and that thing is awesome for racing around the track! I have zero mods and only lose to built 2 strokes so far, but haven't dragged anyone with a YFZ yet, but my buddy with a 85 Tri-Z 250 Yamaha smoked one in a drag race and beat me by quite a bit less. May have been rider. I have mine start on the 1st kick almost every time. No need for electric start with kicking being so easy. It is all preference, and if you are a small guy you might like the YFZ better. My Honda dealer sold me my 2005 TRX 450r for $6250 out the door and the two other dealers wanted $6600 and $6700 + tax and doc fee for the YFZ. One of the dealers that sells Yamaha also sells Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. They wanted $6800 + tax and doc fee for the 450r. He said that the demand for them is greater than the YFZ around here and they wouldn't discount the 450R at all. By the way the KFX 400 and Z 400's there were selling for $5800 tax and doc fee and he said they would discount the suzuki to $5400 but the Kawasaki (which is the same they wouldn't discount) they still wanted $5800 + tax and doc fees. Seems stupid as they are the same bike! He said that they sell every Kawasaki KFX 400 in Orange they can get so that was the reason they wouldn't discount it! That stealership is so ridiculous and overpriced.

I don't really give 2 cents which is "better". But I just got to say lazy a$$! Really, if a rider is that lazy, go play some video games

i dont know about you guys, but i would much rather kick start my quad, more fun. i wish they had a kick start for the raptor. I would get the 450R i like the kick start, and the looks, and its very fast, 1mph difference isnt enough for me. i love the 450R i would take it over a YFZ anyday, this coming from someone who has road both and owns a yamaha.
