well depends on how much repairs are needed like i think i said before i have a few mechanic friend who could probably help me out with the problems that may arise i was just talking to 1 of them earlyer today and he said 4 stroke is more reliable but ussually gives less Hp then 2 stroke but the speed deman i am the more power the better with the fact of me being broke though lol wheres the best place to look for used atv's local newspapers? (ebay probably will not be a choice because i will be in canada and shipping to there will be alot)

Ive had my banshee for a year and a half and not only have I not rebuilt it yet, I have yet to have either of the spark plugs out yet.
It has never required my to remove a plug in all the hours of run time. It still starts on the first kick when warm.

My KX500, ive owned for about 4 years. Its on its second spark plug, and the top end still doesnt show any signs of weak compression at ALL.
(never rebuilt)

2 strokes last a lot longer than people think. Ive always mixed 32:1 gas/oil ratio, and they just keep running as reliably as any 4 stroke.

I have a 450r a 400ex and a Blaster. The Blaster is a great starting quad and has a lot of potential for mods. You don't need to start off with a 240 kit. A bore and piston kit with all gaskets would run you about $150.00 US. This is with you taking the cylindar off the quad and taking it to a shop. It's easy to do, get a shop manual. Get an oil block off kit $30.00, 30mm flat slide carb $169.95 (get rid of stock piece of crap carb), Aktive power reeds $30.00, you can order all of this from trengaracing.com. Then for a pipe get an FMF Fatty Gold $206.99 and a Turbine Core silencer $134.99 from Rockymountainatv.com
With these mods the Blaster will go 60-65 mph.
With these mods the Blaster will beat a 300ex
The 300ex is a great quad too for a starter. It has electric start and reverse but is generally more money than a used Blaster. I picked up my Blaster for $1,000.00 for my son 3 years ago and I just rebuilt it last spring. It is now the extra quad in the garage. It is great on trails because of it's compact size.
The 250ex is a good quad too but you would get bored with it real fast. My wife rides hers on the trails (no clutch) and my 400ex in the sand. The Blaster totally blows away the 250ex.

Blasters were never 250cc, always 200cc.
Best places to look would be: craigslist.org
atvtraderonline.com
cycletrader.com
and your local newspaper
Stock speed for a Blaster is about 55-60
Pre 2003 the Blaster had front drum brakes and rear mechanical disc. Not the best but they work if maintained. You can get aftermarket disc brakes online for pre 2003 Blasters.
I still have the stock setup on mine and they work fine.

Stock top speed on flat ground is 55-57mph with around a 40 mile range on a tank of gas.
