Rubicon 500 power upgrades
#2
to me (my opinion), on a utility quad like the Rubicon, performance mods are one of the biggest wastes of money I can think of.
$ per HP or performance gain is way out of whack
most of the time it involves a louder pipe (we call them trail closers)
I'd take that $1000 (that will get you 5 horsepower) sell the Rubicon and buy something with enough power.

Funny you say that, I told Ryan my friend the same thing. Think after riding my Brute and my new Griz all he has on his mind is MORE POWER. Thanks dude will pass along the info to him.

I just bought a 02 rubicon.
So far I have polished the head, installed a Webcam, going to put in either a Twin Air or Uni air filter.
I want to go with a white brothers exhuast pipe or pro curit. (Both are rated a 98dls or stock level)
I don't have it running yet but just put the motor in the frame today.
All should around 500 bucks.
Also installed a clutch kit to raise the engagement 500rpms, I wouldn't suggest unless going to put on 27" tires cuts down on fuel mileage too much lol

Well that's were the debate somes in cause like here in Minnesota the DNR measure theres 20" away, Ok I don't know what RPM's that is at or if White Brothers measure there's at the same distance or what you would have to call them. They have a number on there website.

I know from other fourwheelers that I have hade that just added in a better flowing air fitler and exhuast makes the motor rev quicker. Far as real numbers no idea, lets say it addes 10 percent. I think that a 500 rubicon is like 12 to 14 HP 10 percent would be around 2 to 4 HP so if you even got 2 HP for say 400 bucks.
Now that's not enough to through on 27 or bigger and have it be a rocket. No reseaon why you cann't put on 26's and have to performe close to stock.

You can still throw on 27's if you'd like, just be prepared to drop to low gear when you get into the sticky stuff. My other friend has a rubicon too, he only has 25" gators and he still runs his in low 90% of the time just cause he likes to have the power handy. But its up to you

I forgot to mention, my brother in law has 27-12-12's on the back and 27-10-12 on his rubi and he can spin them, but again low gear is needed. He has no complains. Just to clarafie my previous message.
