2001 Stock 300ex...what do i do with it now?

Today i just bought a new 2001 300ex. It's all stock of course. I hear see all this talk about all you guys modifying your atv's. What should be the first step in getting more speed and power out of mine?? Would a K & N filter help? any info would be great... thanks guys...

I bought a 2001 300ex for my wife and the first things I did to it were a K & N filter-jet kit and dropped one tooth on the counter sprocket.I am very happy with it.I have a 2000 400ex that is tweaked and my wife and I like to swap quads back and forth.She wont let me put a pipe on the 300.

first thing I would do is new rear tires.I have 20/11/9 6 ply razr's on ITP .190's on the rear of my 97 300ex.Then I would either get a uni or K&N filter.Depending on where U ride.dusty and muddy conditons get a uni.dry and hard pack conditons get the K&N.Then I would rejet go one tooth bigger on countershaft sprocket.And maybe a pipe mine still has the stocker and it doesn't make the neighbors mad and still makes good power.I have read that the supertrapp ids2 is the best pipe.Put so uni air box vents in the lid.And then upgrade to some works triple rates with res's up front.Then get a works duracross rear with res's in the back.After all this you should have a sweet 300ex.

PIPE, K&N Filter, rejet carb (One size larger), Holeshot Tires all the way around, swing arm skid plate(Aluminum, stock is junk. Then just ride it!! Maybe nerf bars if you got someone you like racing with and banging a little. Smaller front sprocket gives it more grunt in the low end too. Riding it, would be the first thing I did to it, though. Then I'd ride it. LOL
