Hello all i have a 2003 rancher es, My buddy's and i stopped for a quick rest while riding and when we went to go i not go in reverse. unless i manually shift it with the handle by the trans. The strange thing is that i can down shift just not electronically shift into reverse. Anyone with some ideas as to the cause i would greatly appreciatted it.

 

Well my 2007 Rancher is at the Honda shop for not shifting into reverse or gearing down while any brake is appied.
Try holding the button in on the brake light switch on your handlebar while you are trying to go into reverse.
Right now The Honda shop is having no luck trying to fix mine. Good Luck!!!!

my dads '02 had the same problem..trace all the wires and see if there's a loose connector, thats what he did..tighted it up and it worked again

 

the reverse wire runs along the bottom of the quad if this is the only problem, then chances are thats the problem.

 

Wire is likely pulled off on the bottom back of engine. A little black wire with a 90 degree boot. You may have to lightly crimp it. Its almost dead center at the back of motor up about an 1" or 2"
