You are going to have a hard time getting information on a machine that old. Pretty much anything you do will most likely be trial and error especially trying to find a bumper or something.
I have a 2003 Recon 250ES which is the same as the 250EX. If you will post your shock lengths and the width of the shock at the eye I will measure mine and let you know if they match up. I would also look more along the lines of the 250X or 300EX sport quads and see if they match up. You will have a far greater chance at picking up spare parts off the true sport quads than you will the utilities or wanna-be sport quad.
Another item you might want to consider is back then the quads had smaller tires in the front and larger tires in the rear. Most quads today either run the same or slightly larger tire in the front because it makes the quad steer and turn better.

good thinking, and thanks for looking out! i showed some interest on ebay in some 300ex shocks and im going to take the old one off and post some dimensions and stud sizes, (the bolt that holds it in)
also have a background with welding so if necessary i could move shocks etc.

300EX shocks are 13" eye to eye if I remember correctly. A lot of racers who ran the 300EX switched to 250R shocks and bought a conversion kit that allowed them to run the longer shocks. The conversion kit moved the upper mounting bracket up 2". This may give you more options. too.
