Where exactly do you place this "wedge"? and what part of the clothes pin are you talking about?

 

Push the red button down and pull in on the handle and you will see the reverse mechaism on the bottom, when you squeeze in on the handle put the piece of clothes pin with the little notch for the spring right into the cable and it will hold it open.
